Welcome to Athlone Elementary School.
Athlone is located in the Athlone Community and includes the newer development of the Dunvegen Community to the west of the school. Our school is a working partnership between students, staff, parents, and the community. We are a student-centred school community committed to strong educational programs delivered in a supportive, nurturing, and safe environment. We believe that our school-wide focus on literacy in all subject areas will provide a foundation for all students to attain their personal optimum levels of achievement across the curriculum.
We offer three educational programs at Athlone: Full Day Kindergarten, Regular Grade 1 - 6, and Behavior and Learning Assistance Program.
The Family Centre is a community agency that offers mentoring, therapy, counseling and family support to schools throughout the Edmonton Area. A community based family therapist is at the school one day per week and provides a variety of supports to all of our students which include success coaching, anti-bullying education, pro-social skill training, conflict resolution and peer mentoring. The family therapist is also available to offer individual counseling sessions to students or families upon request or teacher recommendation.
I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead, and learn from, our strong team of students, staff, and parents at Athlone School. I commit to work with the school community to ensure that the District values: Accountability - Collaboration - Equity - Integrity, guide all decision making and become evident in our actions.
At Athlone School we believe that a child's career pathway begins at birth and continues throughout life. It is much more than helping them answer the question "What will I be when I grow up?" It means providing opportunities to learn and strengthen the skills and resources they need to be a confident, contributing citizen. This includes giving all children many opportunities to apply what they are learning to real-life situations; giving them hands-on experiences; using goal-setting to keep focused on what’s important; and providing formative feedback so they can reflect and grow.
In order to provide time for staff professional development, we dismiss students at 12 noon every Thursday. Our participation in the West 6 Schools network provides high quality professional learning, as well as planning and sharing in expert groups. We can help ensure success for all students by continuing to follow a professional development plan that uses current research and is strengthened through this in-depth professional collaboration.
We look forward to working together to strengthen the academic, social, and emotional competencies of your children so they can see their significance and value in the world.
Please come and introduce yourself so we can continue to nurture strong lines of communication between school and home!
